Hello Chanchinis!
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. – The Golden Rule.
The Golden Rule is a wonderful mantra. But think about this… if we are all 99.999% the same, then we are mostly all ONE. We are all each other… you are me and I am you. When you do unto others, you also do unto yourself.
So… “Do unto yourself, as you would do unto yourself.” and everything will fall into place and you will be much happier.

I’ve spent the last 12 years of my life picking at simplifying my life and treating myself as I would like to be treated by others. Taoism and Taoist concepts have been an amazing philosophy in my life and I want to share with you how these principles have lead me to some startling revelations about life.
Starting with my introduction to Taoism at the age of 19 by a college girlfriend – who recommended I read an amazing book entitled “The Tao of Pooh.” – I have gone on to slowly delve into Taoist concepts more deeply, and have met many people who have helped pave my road to enlightenment. “The Tao of Pooh” was written by Benjamin Hoff and uses the characters of “Winnie the Pooh” to simply explain the concept of Taoism. I highly recommend this book.

My short history as a casual student of Taoism has led me to formulate my own ideas regarding how to live life more simply and to enjoy the present. I picked up and moved away from my home when I was 24. I moved to Washington, DC and have moved almost every year for the better part of the last 10 years. This is much easier to do when you are not tied to things. And when you experience the world you become more aware of what life is like outside of your comfort-zone, or your present home.
You grow more and you learn more. You experience other cultures, other viewpoints, you become more aware of the world from a more distant perspective.
I no longer live in the future, or the past. In a sense we are all time travelers because we are always fretting about what’s around the corner, or what we could have done differently in the past. We’re not enjoying the NOW as much as we should. But if we slow ourselves down, brush off Western society’s demand for our time, and enjoy the state we are in at the present, we can all enjoy more enriched lives.
Today, I feel I am on the right path to being a more conscious human being. I’ve found that one of the best daily teachings of taoism can be visited at ZenHabits.net. Zen Habits is an online channel for spreading the message of simplicity by a man named Leo Babauta. Leo is a friend of mine. He is a friend of the universe.
My first book “Chanchi on the Daily and other such things” is a book for enlightened people like yourself, who live in an otherwise unenlightened world. Stop worrying about politics, about IF you or how you will ever become rich. You already ARE, you just need to help to understand this.
Chanchi is a word that can replace any word. It means LOVE, it means NOTHING, it means UNIVERSALITY.
I hope you will find my upcoming book to be an interesting and humorous perspective on chanchi.
Chanchi,
Eric
